The distance between the origin (0,0) and point (8,-17) is given by the formula:
d=√[(x-x1)²+(y-y1)²]
plugging the given values in the formula we obtain:
d=√[(-17-0)²+(8-0)²]
d=√[(-17)²+8²]
d=√(289+64)
d=√353
d=18.7883
