According to disruptive selection, individuals not favored
are those that reproduce less and have middle-sized gametes, while organisms that are favored and have great
traits reproduce more. Disruptive selection is also known as diversifying
selection because this type of selection can divide populations of species. The
organisms with weaker traits eventually separate with the organisms with
stronger traits, and they may be diverse enough to form a separate species.
