The Mississippian groups had built villages near the river mainly because of the water they get from it.

Basically, most of the Mississippian people are farmers. With this, it is important that they have a continuous and adequate supply of water to replenish the gardens where they plant. They need the water in order to have a productive harvest.

Therefore, it shows that the river played a vital role in the way of living of the Mississippian groups.
