Yoko = $23, Carlos = $14 and Milan = $69

let y represent the amount Yoko has then

Carlos = y - 9 → ( 9 less than Yoko) and

Milan = 3y → ( 3 times as much as Yoko)

the total amount is 106 thus

y + y - 9 + 3y = 106

5y - 9 = 106

add 9 to both sides

5y = 106 + 9 = 115

divide both sides by 5

y = [tex]\frac{115}{5}[/tex] = 23

thus Yoko has $23, Carlos has $23 - $9 = $14and Milan has (3 × 23) = $69
