Sum of n and 8 = (n + 8)

Multiplied by -4  =  -4*(n + 8)

Result = -12

-4*(n + 8) = -12            Divide both sides by -4

(n + 8) = -12/-4

n + 8 = 3

n = 3 - 8

n  = -5.

The number is -5.
