Thomas opposed the king's separation from the Catholic Church, so he refused to acknowledge (King) Henry as Supreme Head of the Church of England.  He also didn't acknowledge the annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon so after he refused to take the Oath of Supremacy, he was then convicted of treason and beheaded.
