Last year, Debbie grew 5/6 of an inch and her brother grew 1/6 of an inch. How much more did Debbie grow than her brother?

The question how much more indicates that it is a subtraction problem. To subtract the two fractions, you need to have the same denominators. In this case they do have the same denominator. Now you would just subtract the numerators. 5-1 = 4 so it would be 4/6 of an inch. This needs reduced to 2/3 inch.
