How do you identify what modifys the adverbs

Answer:an adverb is a word that modifies a verb, adjective or another adverb, or sometimes a whole clause/sentence. It generally answers the question how? where? or when?

Some Examples:

yesterday (when?)---modifies the verb "arrived"  

cautiously (how?)---modifies the verb "walked"

very (how?)---modifies the adverb "cautiously"
