Why did Malcolm X believe that a violent approach to activism would help the African-American community?

I think it was mostly because he opposed integration with the whites. He saw black and white to be separate powers. He felt that the best solution was to set up a country in Africa which was to be populated by American blacks.

I'm guessing that he thought integration would take far too long and that the whites would never accept anything understandable but force.
