A square has sides measuring 3 feet.if the sides of a square are doubled, will the area also be double?explain.

The area (A) of a square is determined by using the formula, A = s² where s is the measure of each side. Given s = 3 ft, the area of the square is 
                                     A = (3 ft)² = 9 ft²
Doubling the sides makes them 6 ft. The new area is, A = (6 ft)² = 36 ft². The new area is not double of the previous area but four times. The new area (An)
                                          An = (2s) ² = 4s² = 4A
