The solution is x = 0.5 and y = 4

Solution:

Given system of equations are:

2x + 3y = 13  ------- eqn 1

4x - y =-2 ------- eqn 2

We can solve by elimination method

Multiply eqn 2 by 3

12x - 3y = -6 ------ eqn 3

Add eqn 1 and eqn 3

2x + 3y = 13

12x - 3y = -6

( - ) ----------------

14x = 7

[tex]x = \frac{7}{14}[/tex]

x = 0.5

Substitute x = 0.5 in eqn 2

4(0.5) - y = -2

2 - y = -2

y = 2 + 2

y = 4

Thus solution is x = 0.5 and y = 4
