Four boxes of crackers cost $10. At this rate, how much do 16 boxes cost?

We can prove this by using this equation:

10 x 16 = 160

By doing this we time the amount of boxes bought by how much they cost. It is the same thing as adding 10 + 10 sixteen times. But by using the multiplication equation it makes it easier to figure out.
