Women started to replace men at their jobs. (women were recruited into jobs vacated by men who had gone to fight in the war.)

Women began having new types of jobs such as working on the land, on transport, in hospitals, and in industry and engineering, building ships and doing labor, such as loading and unloading coal.

Women’s employment rates increased during WWI.
