As John F. Kennedy's running mate in the 1960 election, Lyndon B. Johnson was elected Vice President. When John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, Johnson was sworn in as the 36th President of the United States, with the aim of creating “A Great Society” for the citizens of the United States.
