A typical computer network consists of a server or client workstation, an operating system (such as Windows NT), cabling, and a network interface card (NIC). The network interface card, often known as an expansion board, is what allows the computer to connect to other computers in a network. It houses the communication circuits that allow a computer to connect to a network.
