Costimulatory molecules like dendritic cells are needed for T-cell activation. They are the antigen presenting cells (APCs), and they interact with CD4 helper cells and CD8 T cells.
CD4-APC interaction allows APCs to release the signal molecules which activate the naive CD8 T cells.
