Latent heat of vaporization refers to a phase change from a liquid state to gas state and from gas state to a liquid state.

The amount of heat is the same, no matter the direction of the phase change.

If the phase change is from liquid to gas, the heat is absorbed and if the phase change is from gas to liquid the heat is released.
