How has the Rosetta Stone helped historians to understand Egypt's past?

Napoleon Bonapart and his army discovered it, and it showed writing that was never recognized by others called hieroglyphics. It was a different type of writing that Napoleon himself didn't understand. But it taught them more about Kings and Queens and about past civilizations.
