x = bat
y = ball

x + y = 1.10

x = y + 1.00

Plug y + 1 in for x

(y+1) + y = 1.1

2y + 1 = 1.1

2y = 0.1

y = 0.05

If the ball is 5 cents, then the bat is 1.1-0.05= $1.05
