The total area of the figure is the area of the square plus the area of the rectangle plus the area of the triangle.
 area of the square: (6)*(6)=36cm^2
 area of the rectangle: (7)*(6)=42cm^2
 area of the triangle: (1/2)*(8)*(6)=24cm^2
