Very little information was available to both scientists and the general public about the properties of soft drinks. The industry also mastered advertising by using psychology to convince radio-listeners or television-viewers that their products are safe, delicious, and make for a great time. Think of all those Coca Cola commercials that you watch every now and then; try to remember the upbeat music, the party vibes, the overall message that the soft drink makes everything better.
