I believe that during the second trimester, a pregnant woman need an additional 350 kcal per day. Dietary intake during pregnancy must provide energy that will ensure the full term delivery of a healthy newborn baby of adequate size and appropriate body composition. A pregnant women requires additional energy for the fetus and that explains the reason for the additional energy requirement.
